Holocaust Rememberance Event

On Thusday, the Alpha Pi chapter held its annual Holocaust remembrance event. The event was a success after months of planning from our very own brother, Yehoshua Freed. The event was held at the Edward H. Rosen Hillel center. It would have been nothing without our speakers, Erica Van Adlesberg and Moshe Engel because they shared their experiences and taught us life lessons.

The first speaker, Erica Van Adlesberg, was a survivor of two concentration camps, Westerbork and Bergen Belsen. She was born in Germany but moved to the Netherlands during the 30’s in an attempt to escape from Nazi Germany. She experienced the horrors of the holocaust first hand with her family.

The second speaker, Moshe Engel, spoke on his fathers’ behalf about his experiences as a survivor of the death camps, Auschwitz and Dachau. He spoke about how his father not only considered himself a survivor, but also a victor because he eventually had 20 grandchildren.

Overall, this event was very successful and the students at Temple were able to hear first-hand experiences of the Holocaust. It isn’t every day that we have an opportunity such as this. A special thanks goes out to Hillel for allowing us to hold our event in their building. It just goes to show that after nearly 7 decades we haven’t forgotten about the horrific tragedies from the holocaust and we will still take the time to show our appreciation.
